airplanes are all aircraft that fly (in a nut shell).

The powerplant that the airplane uses classifies it as a jet engine (think 747), recipicating engine (think small, private aircraft, Cessna 152), or Turbo Prop (think Beech 1900D)

To stop what?

5.56? .50 cal? 30mm cannon? Sidewinder or AIM? SAM?

You are moving fast enough that worrying about small arms is pretty much pointless and overall weight limitations make ‘proofing’ against everything all over impossible.

Anything, including carbon fiber, will work if it is thick enough.

Protect your cockpit and your vitals if desired but redundancy and ECM are cheaper and a more practical set of solutions.

Holy, there’s some rude answers here. I believe the asker is talking hypothetically, which doesn’t make them a ‘dummy’.

The answer is twofold. First of all, as mentioned above, you’re moving really fast. Air coming across your face at 500 mph would not feel good and would push your head back in a most uncomfortable manner. Secondly, at cruising altitude, the air pressure is super low, so even if the plane wasn’t moving you would quickly pass out as your lungs can’t properly take air in at those low pressures.

I’m told that this cool park had a static mounted, very old military fighter jet as a part of the park, and that kids used to play on it. My storyteller said that when the rarity of the airplane was discovered, it was removed and headed for restoration. Does anyone know what it was, where it went, or how I can get pictures???

The park definitely had an old military plane in it a long time ago – more than 20 years ago. I remember playing on it when I was very young. It had all of the avionics, etc removed from it. Originally you could climb into the cockpit, but at some point they filled that in.

I always thought that they removed it because it was a liability. I did some Googling, and found that it was an F2H-2P Banshee that has been restored. See http://www.rv-anytimers.com/2009/01/planes-planes-more.html for more information. According to that site, it’s the last one in existence.
