Do all countries do this or is this strictly an Israeli thing?

lol, customs seem odd in other countries, we don’t do that in the UK, or in Australia, or in France, or Spain, or Africa, or Norway, or Ireland, or Germany, or Russia in my experience.

Email stated: Airbus $200,000,000. TITANIC? This new Airbus 340-600, the largest passenger airplane ever built, sits just outside its hangar in Toulouse , France without a single hour of airtime.

Enter the Arab flight crew of Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies (ADAT) to conduct pre-delivery tests on the ground, such as engine run-ups prior to delivery to Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi .. The ADAT crew taxied the A340-600 to the run-up area.

Then they took all Four engines to takeoff power with a virtually empty aircraft. Not having Read the run-up manuals, they had no clue just how light an empty A340-600 Really is.

The takeoff warning horn was blaring away in the cockpit because they had All 4 engines at full power. The aircraft computers thought they were trying to take off, but it had not been configured properly (flaps/slats, etc..)

Then one of the ADAT crew decided to pull the circuit breaker on the Ground Proximity Sensor to silence the alarm. This fools the aircraft into thinking it is in the air.

The computers automatically released all the Brakes and set the aircraft rocketing forward. The ADAT crew had no idea that this is a safety feature so that pilots can’t land with the brakes on.

Not one member of the seven-man crew was smart enough to throttle back the engines from their max power setting, so the $200 million brand-new Aircraft crashed into a blast barrier, totaling it.

The extent of injuries to the crew is unknown due to the news blackout in the major media in France and elsewhere.

Date: June 26, 1988
Time: 14:45
Location: Habsheim, France
Operator: Air France
Flight number: 296Q
Route: Basel – Basel
AC type: Airbus A320-111
Aboard: 136 (passengers: 130, crew:6)
Fatalities: 3 (passengers: 3, crew:0)

Summary: The plane was scheduled to perform a series of fly-bys at an air show. The plane was to descend to 100 ft. altitude with landing gear and flaps extended. The automatic go-around protection was inhibited for the maneuver. During the maneuver, the plane descended thru 100 ft. to an altitude of 30 feet and hit trees at the end of the runway. The aircraft was totally destroyed by the successive impacts and violent fire which followed. The pilot allowed the aircraft to descend through 100 ft. at slow speed and maximum angle of attack and was late in applying go-around power. Unfamiliarity of the crew with the landing field and lack of planning for the flyby.

Command and the Navy Command of the Air report that, as previously announced, between 5 and 6am this morning, the radar of the plane R-99 identified a number of points to 849 kilometers of Fernando de Noronha, off the northwestern 69.5 kilometers where the AF 447 reported electric breakdown. A Hercules C-130 was directed to the site and visually confirmed the presence of objects in water. Then, at 08h14, the Corbeta Caboclo sought a seat in the local blue and moments later found two bodies, and various components of the aircraft. These bodies were transferred to the Frigate Constitution.

At 11h39, the R-99 of the Brazilian Air Force took off from Fernando de Noronha to continue scanning electron and captured during the afternoon, several objects to the west of the area where the bodies were removed. As expected, visual search of the aircraft take off and then to clarify these points. Around 16.00 a FAB C-130 spotted the other locations with possible debris.

Thus, the search will continue concurrently to the rescue of the various components of the aircraft already located. The Corbeta Caboclo and ship-Grajaú Patrol will continue to remove material from the sea this evening. But the planes follow the same design used in earlier days, prioritizing the actions of search and rescue after the wreck. The two bodies have been rescued on the way to Fernando de Noronha on board the Frigate Constitution.

It is pertinent to stress that Fernando de Noronha is only a scale logistics to enable the air from this point to Recife, where the identification of bodies will be conducted by IML-Recife (PE). In the current phase of operations, emphasized that the rescue of bodies will have priority over the recovery of materials and found that each new evidence reinforces the need to enlarge the area of search, which currently has more than 200,000 total square kilometers.

Bolivian TV channel PAT has been left looking a bit daft after broadcasting extraordinary images of the last moments of Air France flight 447, lost over the Atlantic on 1 June:

According to the report, the snaps were retrieved from a recovered Casio Z750, which was subsequently traced via the serial number to its owner – “Paulo G. Muller, an actor from a well-known children’s theatre on the outskirts of Porto Alegre”.

In fact, the camera can be traced to ABC Studios and sharp-eyed readers will notice that the photographs feature well-known actress Evangeline Lilly, aka Kate Austen from TV series Lost.

PAT has fallen hook, line and sinker for a hoax email, and to add to its embarrassment, has failed to appreciate that while the flight 447 disaster occurred at night, the images represent the daytime fictional break-up of Oceanic Flight 815

Update: According to a Digg commenter, the newscaster explains that the camera was destroyed, but the memory card was somehow recovered.
