For your safety in the event of an accident. If there is a fire outside you need to know to not open doors on that side of the plane.

Why does someone ask this question every single day? Whatever you do, DON’T ASK why don’t we get parachutes and why aren’t planes made out of the same materials as black boxes.

I love to travel, visit new places and friends. Nevertheless, i am afraid of flying and airplanes. I feel very uncomfortable when the plane takes off, during the flight, i have an awfull time till the plane lands. How to overcome my fear of flying in airplanes?

Well what is it about airplanes that makes you uncomfortable? If you don’t trust the pilot, there isn’t much to worry about. Just about everything the plane does is automated. From taking off, cruising, even parts of landing are all done automatically without the pilot needing to do anything. Most of the time, the pilot is there for the ride just as you are. He is mostly only there to take control of the plane if there is an unnatural occurrence during the plane’s flight. If such a happening were to take place, it would be dealt with promptly and efficiently. You’d never even know something changed. Commercial airplane travel is still the safest method of long-distance travel. The planes that are built today are able to fly using only one engine, however, they are still equipped with two. Anytime a plane has a malfunction or error of some sort, the airline and plane manufacturers both work immediately to fix the problem to eliminate it from happening a second time no matter how small the problem was.

I hope this was helpful.

I read that commercial airplanes have weights made out of Depleted uranium (same stuff used to blow through tanks in wars) so if the plane crashed could it throw radioactive particles everywhere.

Commercial planes don’t carry any weights made of depleted uranium or any other radioactive substance. (Even if they did, a crash wouldn’t necessarily "throw radioactive particles everywhere".) airplanes are made as light as possible to save fuel. The fuel needed to fly even a couple of pounds of extra weight over the life of the aircraft can add up to significant reduction in profits. Some airlines take this so seriously that they strip the paint off the fuselage and wings and use a minimal color scheme for their corporate logos. Although some small, single-engine planes use steel counterweights on some control surfaces, the same effect can be achieved with aerodynamic balancing, eliminating the need for weights. The control surfaces on large commercial aircraft are operated by electric jackscrews and hydraulic pistons. These mechanisms are so powerful that they don’t need counterweights.

Most commercial airliners are pressurized to an effective altitude of 8000 feet above sea level.

I’m sure a web search will help you convert that to atmospheres, bars, %, or whatever other units you like.

Don’t you just hate the long lines and crowded airports when getting on a commercial flight? If you wanted something more luxurious than that, you can fly with style with a private jet charter.

There are a number of private jet services that are already making their way out in the market for ordinary people like you. This is the best and the most modern way to travel. If you are looking for utmost comfort and total convenience, then there is no better option than riding on a private jet charter.

What makes a ride in a private jet better than commercial flights? For one, you don’t have to wait in long lines any longer. You dictate your time, so there would be no such thing as delayed flights. You do not have to be constrained by commercial air flight’s schedule. What’s even worse is sometimes your airline can cancel your flight for whatever reason, but with a private jet, you can actually forget all these kind of delays.

You can eat gourmet meals specially made for you, not those mass-produced food you find in normal flights. There is even a bar that you can get a drink or two. You can also enjoy a good film with their in-flight movies.

Ultimately, a private jet charter can give you total comfort. You don’t have to make your way through a crowd or strain your legs because you can barely move in your seat. The aircraft is spacious enough for you to roam around with ease. The customer service in private flights is totally top-class. They always ensure that you are comfortable and have everything you need right in front of you.

If boarding in a commercial airplane gets you all psyched because of the inconvenience it may bring, you can forget all the hassles when you board in a private plane. All you have to do is go to the airport or wherever your aircraft is located, board on it and get set for a luxurious flight ahead.

Private air charters are best for business trips. You can readily arrange ground transportation and even catering services inside the plane. If you value time more than anything else, then a private jet rental is the best thing for you. You can actually manage and dictate your flight itinerary. Private jets can also land to a number of destinations that usual commercial airlines are not permitted to go. This means that you can get to your destination faster and easier.

And of course, there is one thing that you can have in a private jet charter that you will never have in a commercial flight – privacy. To a lot of people this is very important, especially if you are on a discrete personal or business trip. Unlike in commercial flights where you get to ride with a bunch of strangers, hiring a private jet allows you to travel with your friends or family. Plus, you actually have the entire jet to yourself. You would get the privacy you want and the comfortable flight you definitely need. You can opt to do some business matters on the plane or do your personal thing.

You might think that flying with a private jet charter would be quite pricey. But you actually save a lot more than you can imagine if you are traveling in a group. It’s a cost-effective alternative than buying individual tickets from a commercial airline. Most private air charter can accommodate eighteen passengers at a maximum. If you come to think of it, if you divide the total cost for eighteen people, it would be more ore less the same amount of money that you pay for a usual commercial flight. What’s even better is that if you happen to have a number of stopovers during your flight you can save a lot on parking and hotel costs.

More and more business people are using private jet charters for their travels. Top management people like CEO and executive managers usually aboard private flights. Celebrities and high-profile people are also common customers of private flight services. More elite organizations also prefer to ride in private jet flights and travel as a group.

If you wanted to travel in style and in complete luxury, traveling on a private jet charter is your best option. You may have to pay a little extra, but the comfort and the privacy you’re going to get in return is well worth it.

Was it the one in Lexington a few years ago?

I’m not referring to the small private plane crashes of which you seem to hear of all the time.

Comair flight 5191 leaving Lexington for Atlanta on 8/26/06. The aircraft accidently took off from the wrong runway which was to short for the plane. All 47 passengers on board the flight were killed along with 2 crew members, the lone survivor was the First Officer.

How many g-forces – vertical or horizontal – are there when taking off or landing in a commercial airplane? Do these cause discomfort?

Not very much. There is acceleration when the plane starts down the runway, and if there is turbulence it can be a bumpy ride, but it really isn’t that big a deal generally.

Sorry, I can’t give you specific numbers.
